THE GOODNESS
OF GOD
FROM A TO Z
Introduction:
The purpose of this study is stated in Proverbs 4:20-23 and Philippians 4:3
Proverbs 4:20-23 KJV – My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings. Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart. For they [are] life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh. Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it [are] the issues of life.
Philippians 4:8 KJV – Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things [are] honest, whatsoever things [are] just, whatsoever things [are] pure, whatsoever things [are] lovely, whatsoever things [are] of good report; if [there be] any virtue, and if [there be] any praise, think on these things.
While driving one day I decided that I needed to change my mind by changing the way I was thinking. However, the anxieties of some difficult situations with which I was confronted seemed to be overwhelming. I started utilizing the alphabet as a way to implement Philippians 4:8 into my daily living by attaching a positive thought from God's Word to each letter of the alphabet. I really enjoyed this process.
My first endeavor at this was just one positive word per letter. I shared this with my grandchildren one night and saw how much fun they had attaching a positive thought from the Bible to each letter. Of course, I had to help them, but after one time all the way through the alphabet, they were able to repeat it and come up with some very good thoughts of their own.
As I continued to work these things in my mind, I found scriptures to attach to that one word. Since my job requires me to travel quite a bit, I started to utilize letters on license plates, road signs, billboards, and so on to remind me of the scriptures I had already attached to each letter.
It is clear from God's Word that we need to keep the scriptures in our minds. This study will give the reader a way to build these thoughts systematically. By using the alphabet you will see how simple it is to attach positive thoughts, concepts and scriptures to each letter. This method will provide you with permanent building blocks for positive thoughts.
The benefit of thinking and remembering scriptures as previously mentioned is in Proverbs 4:22-23.
Proverbs 4:22-23 KJV – For they [are] life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh. Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it [are] the issues of life.
God says to attend to His Words. We need to do this by studying His Word. Not only does He want us to know His Word but to think His Word and to keep His Word in the midst of our thoughts and actions in our daily lives. As we do this, we will keep our heart with all diligence. The benefits of doing this is life and health to all our flesh.
If you desire to see God's abundance in your life, then start thinking about God's limitless ability to supply all your need.
Philippians 4:19 KJV – But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
Whatever is your desire in life, start thinking about it positively. You will realize that all action is preceded by thought. Positive thought will lead to positive action. The things that we continue to think about will determine the condition of our heart and out of it are the issues of life.
I would like to give you an analogy: "What the stomach is to the body is what the mind is to the heart." If we eat nothing but junk food over a sustained period of time, we will become very sickly. If we constantly think negatively about any situation in life, we will reap the consequences of those negative thoughts into our lives. Conversely, if we think correct thoughts according to God's Word, we will reap the abundant benefits that God promises. We need to guard our mind with God's Word.
Psalm 103:2 KJV – Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits:
Certainly we are not going to forget the alphabet so we can attach more and more scriptures to each letter.
Not only have I utilized the alphabet to remember thoughts and scriptures, but I have also put together entire teachings with the alphabet. Some of the titles of these teachings are: Almighty God - Our Absolute Anchor for All Time; Beloved, I Beseech You to Believe God; Casting All Your Cares Upon Him for He Cares For You; Decision, Deliverance and Delight; Ephesians - The Greatest Revelation to the Church; Faithful Loving Father; The Goodness of God: The Hope and so on. This will be a beautiful way to teach children 26 teachings attached to the alphabet. These will be published in a future publication.
As you put God's Word in your mind, my desire for you is stated in Romans 12:2.
Romans 12:2 KJV – And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what [is] that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
The renewing of the mind is a continuous process of putting God's Word in our mind and then thinking it. You can use the alphabet as your building blocks to not only help you put the Word into your mind, but also to keep it there. You will be surprised how much you can easily remember in a short period of time, and how your life will be transformed because your thoughts will be those of God's Word.
Psalm 68:19 KJV – Blessed [be] the Lord, [who] daily loadeth us [with benefits, even] the God of our salvation. Selah.
You will reap the benefits of God because you will be more aware of what His benefits are, and you will be looking at all of His goodness. This workbook can also be utilized as a primer for studying the scriptures.
Everyone with whom I have shared this concept has agreed that it helps them remember and think about the things of God. I challenge you to begin to utilize the alphabet to help you remember to "think on these things."
How It Works
After reading this workbook, start by going through the alphabet and listing words from the Bible that come to your mins. Then go through it again and put in the verses that you can remember. Finally, you can look up new words for each letter and verses from the Word and write them in the blanks provided in this workbook.
Of course, this is nothing new. God has utilized the figure of speech "acrostic" in the Bible in a number of different places. (See Figures of Speech Used in the Bible by E.W. Bullinger, Pages 180-188). Psalm 119 uses this figure of speech with the alphabet which has 22 letters. Each verse of this Psalm begins with a letter of the Hebrew alphabet in sequence of eight verses each in the 176 verses in Psalm 119. In the English language, you cannot recognize this format due to translation. Therefore in this study the English will be used in a word in a verse rather than at the beginning of the verse.
Following is a listing of the letters and one word for each letter. Then the workbook, which is self-explanatory follows that.

USING COLORS TO REMEMBER GOD AND HIS WORD
Some other things that I do with my mind while I am driving my four-state territory is to use colors of the environment to remind me of the things of God. Just as I have used the alphabet as memory pegs to remind me of scripture, now I am simply using colors to remind me of the things of God also. The colors are listed below in alphabetical order.
BLACK – "It is Written" because it is black print on a white page. When I see the speed signs, they are black and white reminding me of all the wonderful promises in God's Word. When I close my eyes it is dark and black, quiet like deep waters. the storm may be raging above but down deep, the waters are calm, still and black.
BROWN ‐ A beautiful golden brown freshly baked whole wheat loaf of bread. The aroma is such that I can taste it. "Man shall not live by bread alone but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God."
GOLD ‐ God has given us all His abundance now and also in the future when we will walk the streets of gold.
GRAY ‐ Behind every gray cloud the sun is always there. No matter how dark the clouds are, the sun is still there, just as God and His promises are always there. Eventually we will see the rainbows and the sun.
GREEN ‐ The abundance of life that God gives is everywhere around us. The beautiful meadows, the green forest, all that grows abundantly, all because God made life to be that way.
ORANGE ‐ The magnificent sunrise and the beautiful sunset, the orange ball bigger than life. I will worship God from the rising sun to the setting sun.
PINK ‐ The tenderness of a new-born baby wrapped in a pink blanket held by the loving parent. Imagine how much more God loves us and holds us more tenderly and dearly than that.
PURPLE ‐ Royalty and dignity. God wants us to be His best and to do our utmost for His Highest. We are the children of God, which makes us royalty and we should live in His royal abundance as He would have us to live.
RED ‐ Red roses and the sweet soft fragrance, a symbol of love. By the blood of Christ we are a sweet smelling savor unto God.
SCARLET ‐ Though my sins are red as scarlet, by God's love, mercy and grace I am as white and pure as new snow.
SILVER ‐ The sword of the Spirit able to separate truth from error.
WHITE ‐ God is light and in Him is no darkness at all.
YELLOW ‐ The beautiful noon day sun giving life to all that lives. There is Son-shine in my soul. As I look to the things of God, I reflect the brightness and magnificence of God.
